The Corner Market in Edgar isn't your typical small-town grocery store. Open the door to a homey yet modern, well-lit store, with a wide variety of goods and friendly service. It is computerized, digitized, and everybody locally knows they can just ask for Tim if there is something they need. Tim Sorsen has owned the store and served the people of the area for 19 years.
Tim grew up in Norfolk and was living in Hastings when a friend told him the store was for sale. Tim says it "worked out great." He bought the store and over the years, residents of the tiny community say they do their regular shopping there, saving them the 40-mile trip to Hastings.
Today the Corner Market carries "a little bit of plumbing supplies, a little bit of hardware junk," greeting cards, and pretty much everything you would expect to find in a general store, according to Tim. They serve homemade food on a "grab and go" basis at lunchtime. Tim says they serve 20-30 meals a day of everything from chicken noodle soup, sloppy joes, and pork sandwiches to salads.
The store is currently in the process of launching a website for meat cutting, with the help of ERC Communications in Edgar, that will allow them to ship Nebraska beef, pork, and turkey across the country. Tim says the website at http://www.nebraskameat.biz, is up, but won't be fully operational until sometime later in the month of June.
It's easy to see why the people of Edgar think Tim is so accommodating. The Corner Market at 4th & C Streets has 9 employees and is open 7 days a week:
Monday thru Saturday from 7:30AM to 7:30PM, and Sundays from 9 Œtil 3. Tim says the longer hours make it "convenient for my people to get in." If he doesn't carry something you need, he'll order it for you and Tim says, "There's not much I can't get."
