Grand Island, NE —

The timing of this article is terrific for The Coffee Bean shop of Central City.  Why, you might ask.  Because on June 20th they celebrated three years in business and are very happy about that accomplishment.  The itty bitty coffee shop in a parking lot on Highway 30 and across the street from Central City Mall is the answer to a long dream held by the three Central City owners Nancy and Tom Wagner and Chad Juviden.  They were excited to start the business and continue to be pleased by how it is clearly succeeding.  The way you know that business is good is by trying to take a photo of the place without cars blocking the view. Recently I found that was nearly impossible!

It'll come as no surprise that The Coffee Beans offers coffees of all tastes, shades, and flavors for reasonable prices.  The variations of flavors available in hot and cold coffee drinks is almost unlimited, but they offer lots of different tea-based drinks, too. They're now making delicious fruit smoothies and iced coffees which are more popular in warm weather. But even so, Nancy reported that hot white chocolate mocha is the most popular drink of all.  Mrs. Wagner assured me that, "We can do about anything Starbucks can do and with more flavors." With help from employees Nancy Wagner occasionally works the shop during the winter months.  However, in the summer she's the schedule maker for several awesome employees who keep the shop going. Assigning work hours can be a difficult job, but Nancy believes that the pleasure of working with her employees far outweighs any scheduling difficulties. Mrs. Wagner practically bubbled when she talked about her staff.  Although may of them are involved in sports or family events, she remains aware of their individual needs and honors them.

Wagner said that one of the unexpected benefits and pleasures has been getting to know folks in Central City.  Wagner said that without The Coffee Bean, "I wouldn't have gotten to know [the staff] and love them," She added that they have terrific help and "it's been a great experience working with all of them."  Nancy said, I "really get to know people and really like them, too." She's delighted she's been able to meet so many people and develop new friendships along the way..

It looks like The Coffee Bean shop is more than just a place to get good coffee. You've learned it's also  terrific for teas and smoothies, and now friendships, too. I nearly forgot to mention that pastries can be purchased to accompany your locha-mocha-maple-surple drink topped with whipped cream, or something similar to that. I'm sure you know that scones and muffins go good with any fancy drink.  The pastries are special and can be had only from The Coffee Bean and are baked fresh each day right there in that teeny-weeny building. It's a wonder they have room with all those exotic flavors on the counters.

You'll be so happy and hungry to know that The Coffee Bean shop is open daily, year round.  Weekday hours are 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., on Saturdays they're open 7 a.m. to 12 noon, and on Sunday's it's 8 a.m. to noon.  I hear that if you eat sweet stuff while standing among friends that the calories miraculously fall away. There's no reason why you shouldn't head over there right now to test that theory. Plus that, there may be some new specials this week to celebrate their 3rd birthday.  Bon apetite!
